Chapter 8 – Making All Things New

The end is near.

How to scare the ________ out of you.

Beauty? Goodness? Truth?

I Wish We’d All Been Ready – 1970

Larry Norman (DC Talk remix)

Life was filled with guns and war

And all of us got trampled on the floor

I wish wed all been ready

The children died, the days grew cold

A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold

I wish wed all been ready

There's no time to change your mind

The son has come and you've been left behind

A man and wife asleep in bed

She hears a noise and turns her head he's gone

I wish wed all been ready

Two men walking up a hill

One disappears and ones left standing still

I wish wed all been ready

The father spoke, the demons dined

How could you have been so blind?

I hope we’ll all be ready

You've been left behind

Rapture, 666

Left behind – great escape

Fluffy heaven – individualism & isolation

Scary ending story

Matthew 24:40-41 (ESV)

40  Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. 41  Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (ESV)

13  But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14  For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15  For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16  For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

17  Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18  Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Beauty, Goodness & Truth

New heavens and new earth

Kingdom of God - the with-God life together

Imagine what beauty, goodness and truth

All will end well

It’s a gift

Revelation 22:1-5 (ESV)

1  Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2  through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3  No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him.

4  They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5  And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

Isaiah 25:6-9 (ESV)

6  On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined.

7  And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations.

8  He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken.

9  It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

Living in the Magnificent Way

Beauty, Goodness & Truth

I can only imagine what it will be like

When I walk, by your side

I can only imagine what my eyes will see

When you face is before me

I can only imagine

I can only imagine

Surrounded by You glory

What will my heart feel

Will I dance for you Jesus

Or in awe of You be still

Will I stand in your presence

Or to my knees will I fall

Will I sing hallelujah

Will I be able to speak at all

I can only imagine

I can only imagine
