Righteous Wisdom

Summary: Jesus is preparing the Soil so we can eat, drink, be forgiven, and live.

John 12:24 (ESV)

… unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

Mark 14:22-25 (ESV)

22  And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” 23  And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. 24  And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. 25  Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”

John 18:1 (ESV)

When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples across the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered.

Mark 14:32-36 (ESV)

32  And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33  And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled. 34  And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch.”

35  And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36  And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

“My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch.”

Luke 22:41-44 (ESV)

41  And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42  saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43  And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44  And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Jesus: seed moistened, dies and is planted.

John 19:28-30 (ESV)

28  After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” 29  A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30  When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

John 19:38-42 (ESV)

38  After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body.

39  Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus by night, came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds in weight. 40  So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. 41  Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. 42  So because of the Jewish day of Preparation, since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.

John 20:11-15 (ESV)

11  But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. 12  And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. 13  They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.”

14  Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15  Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener ….
